A message from afar

An citizen of New Zealand wrote me a comment in response to the Liberal corruption scandal and I think its a good example of what people from abroad must think of us:

If you Canadians cannot see through the sham that is your government, then you deserve what you get if you vote these desparate despots in again. Reading your Edmonton Journal online, in page A2, in a article titled 'Says You' "I don't think an election should be called. I think the sponsorship scandal has likely gone on long enough in terms of the inquiry and the time and money that's been spent to look into it. I think, deep down, everybody knows that it was a mistake and let's just move on and focus on the real problems.... I don't think an election will solve the problem."

I read that and I can't believe that a supposedly educated marketing manager actually said that. I know it is a limited 5 person poll and 60% are of the opinion that an election should not be called, but i shake my head at some people's head in the sand approach.

That truly is scary.

The government is now shown to be so tainted and yet there are Canadians so blind. Mr. Martin should be going with cap in hand to the Canadian people and call an election and be tossed onto the scrap heap of history.

Mr NZ is exactly right. But judging by the comments posted in The Star yesterday, Ms Marketing Manager isn't the only one stupified by the Liberals.

Which is to say, the Conservatives still have A HECK OF A LOT OF WORK to do if they hope to form the next government. It is a sad statement to make about Canadians, but it is generally true.
